To begin, you can call me Skim. If you've stumbled onto this site and are looking for anything interesting, sorry. I'm not at that stage just yet. It's just me getting a chance to play around with HTML/CSS and Javascript. However, I'll also be using this space to document anything I come across in terms of coding, experiences, feelings, issues and status updates. Basically, my own non-social Social Media page.
I'm a 25 year old Manager of a Car Wash at the moment. My past experiences include:
And among these jobs, my favorite was being the Asst. Manager at the Dry Cleaners. I was able to stay on my feet, work in a fast paced environment, had plenty of control over daily operations and a balanced set of responsibilities. Plus they treated me fairly well and entrusted me with the corporate checkbook and petty cash. It was a sense of ownership I felt that I had yet to receive before. I only left because I was looking for a career change and needed a part time job while I was going back to school.
Speaking of school. I'm currently a Cyber Security Major at my Community College. I started out as an Art Major, felt unsure of my own skills, switched to an English Major, felt it wasn't the right career for me at the time, became a Criminal Justice major, felt very empowered and knowledgable, but eventually went on hiatus to focus on my Asst. Manager position. In hindsight it felt like I was using work as an excuse to not go back to school. But now, I'm at the stage of my life where I'm no longer a young adult, and just full on adult. It's terrifying.
I've decided to tackle a Cyber Security Major because I've always held an interest in computers and thinking that maybe having some basic knowledge in Criminal Justice, a Cyber Security major might be a good choice. I'm currently contemplating finishing up my first semester and seeing how it goes before changing my major to a more broad Computer Science. I'm hesitant because I feel like delving deeply into one subject would be good, but reluctant to stay because I know that programmers, developers and engineers in the IT field seem to agree on going broad and finding your niche after you have a good foundation of overall concepts. Either way, I'm not going to keep changing things around because I hate feeling like my whole life is an insecure shuffle. I want stability damn it!
While preparing August 22nd (First day of class) I've decided to get a head start at learning html/css and javascript. I've already got a basic understanding of TCP/IP and the OSI Model that will be finished off in my Intro to Networking class, and plenty of resources to work on it further (Uncle dropped me off some Cisco equipment he didn't need anymore so I could practice), but my web development game is weak. So I've taken up learning on Code Academy to get the basics down. In fact, this website's intended purpose is to play around with what I learn and store projects while documenting my growth to look back on one day.
This marks the end of the intro story and the start of the rest of my site. For the moment, I'm not going to remove anything from the default NeoCities page, but will slowly add and tweak it and eventually rehaul this entire page anyway. So please mind the dust as I settle in.
